Home Battery Storage in Cyprus (2026): Subsidy, Costs & Payback

With net billing and the February 2026 credit reset, a home battery is now the key to protecting your solar savings. Here's how storage works, what it costs, and what the subsidy covers.

Why batteries matter now

Under net billing, electricity you export earns far less than electricity you use yourself. A battery lets you store daytime solar and use it in the evening — capturing the full retail value instead of the low export rate. After the 2026 credit reset wiped accumulated net-metering credits, self-storage is the reliable path.

The battery subsidy

The Save-Upgrade scheme pays €375 per kW of battery capacity, capped at €1,500 (4 kW), with a 50% bonus in designated mountain areas. A battery is also now mandatory to unlock any state grant on a new PV installation.

Costs and payback

Residential batteries are installed actively across Cyprus, often in a single day. A 5 kWh battery typically adds €3,000–€4,000 to a system. Payback depends on how much of your own solar you can shift to self-consumption.
