Solar Panels in Cyprus (2026): Costs, Subsidies & Net-Billing Guide

Everything Cyprus homeowners need to know about going solar under the new net-billing regime — what it costs, how the Save-Upgrade subsidy works, and why a battery now matters more than ever.

Why solar still pays off after net-billing

Since 1 January 2026, Cyprus replaced net metering with net billing: exported electricity is now paid at the wholesale rate (~€0.10/kWh) instead of the retail rate (~€0.32/kWh). The maths has shifted from 'export everything' to 'self-consume as much as possible'. Solar still pays — but pairing it with a battery is now what protects your return.

What a system costs in 2026

A typical 5 kW PV-only install runs around €9,000 before subsidy. Add a 5 kWh battery and you are closer to €15,000. Prices vary with roof complexity, inverter brand and battery capacity — which is exactly why comparing multiple vetted installer quotes matters.

The Save-Upgrade subsidy in plain terms

The current scheme subsidises batteries at €375/kW (max €1,500, with a 50% bonus in mountain areas), and a battery is now required to qualify for any state grant on a new PV install. We help you understand exactly what you're eligible for before you commit.
